Alexander Selkirk Is.

Formerly known as Más Afuera, is located in the Pacific Ocean and forms part of the Juan Fernández Archipelago, a territory of Chile.

Situated 180 kilometers west of Robinson Crusoe Island, the island covers an area of 49,5 square kilometers and reaches a maximum elevation of 1,268 meters above sea level. Its rugged landscape is dominated by imposing cliffs that surround much of the coastline. Along the southern shore, numerous narrow waterfalls cascade from the island's high peaks directly into the sea, creating one of its most distinctive natural features.

During the fishing season, the island hosts a floating population of approximately 60 people. The small settlement includes a pier, around twenty buildings, a football field, and a cemetery, reflecting the unique way of life in this remote corner of the South Pacific.

Operating Site

The Shelter

33°45'44.3"S 80°47'58.0"W

The shelter where we will set up our radio station is located at an elevation of 1,057 meters (3,468 feet) above sea level (see video below), in a privileged location that offers excellent conditions for making contacts around the world.

However, reaching this site presents a significant logistical and physical challenge. Access requires a trek of more than four hours, covering a distance of over seven kilometers from the Fisherman Village to the shelter. All the equipment required for the expedition, including radios, generator, fuel, water, food, sleeping bags, and personal belonging must be carried manually to the summit of the mountain, each member operator must carry a 15kg backpack, and we will also use the help of the fisherman of the island, who will assist us.

Without a doubt, this is an exceptional location that demands considerable effort and dedication from the operators. Nevertheless, we are confident that the reward will be well worth the challenge: making numerous contacts from one of the most remote places on Earth.
